A Relational and Integrative approach to therapy

Hello,

My name is Dr Luke Bannister, thank you for visiting my website.

Life, in all of its complexity, can be challenging, and our experience of our own thoughts and emotions can cause us distress which can be difficult to alleviate and understand.

I’m sorry if you are struggling at the moment. I would like you to know that there is always hope and that life can become easier over time, despite how difficult this may be to currently imagine.

I understand that reaching out to a psychologist can feel daunting, and that simply looking for a therapist can take courage. I offer face-to-face therapy to individuals in York, and I offer remote therapy over video to adults in the UK.

A Relational Approach

The process of therapy can be difficult to define. My approach views the therapeutic relationship as central, and I strive to create a space in which you feel safe and we collaboratively explore your experience.

Many people can experience a sense of shame and may have concerns about being judged. I adopt a non-judgemental outlook in therapy and believe empathy underpins the therapeutic process.

Our minds and experiences are all unique and individual. Consequently, I may draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to match you.

I also believe in the importance of the body and nature in relation to our mental well-being. Our bodies can also hold onto past trauma, and developing the ability to hold a mindful awareness of our body can help alleviate difficult emotions.
